Our Mission
Established in 2016, Market Street MTC is a designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to re-energize the central business district of historic Mount Carmel, Illinois. Guided by a volunteer board, the group currently includes teams dedicated to Beautification, Murals + Art, and Music at the Park. Working in collaboration with local businesses and institutions, we strengthen our community by supporting projects that enrich local arts and culture, improve infrastructure, beautify shared spaces, and promote Mt. Carmel as a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
Our work focuses on enhancing the look, feel, and life of our main street, with projects ranging from live concerts to vibrant murals to new benches, planters, and storefront improvements. Market Street MTC strives to bring our community together in a thriving uptown area that reflects the pride of this community: honoring local history while making space for new experiences, businesses, and connections to grow.
Meet Me On Market
Our Team
The newly formed Murals + Art Team seeks to energize our uptown area through public art projects. We’ve started a murals program, bringing professional muralists from our region to town. They’ll paint murals on Market Street District buildings in a variety of subjects from notable moments in Mount Carmel history to colorful abstract visions. We will expand our art offerings in the future to include events and hands-on art experiences for participants of all ages.

Our Team
The Beautification Team works to ensure all Market Street visitors enjoy their time uptown whether they are there for work, running errands, or enjoying a day out with family and friends. From the colorful banners suspended from lightposts up and down the street, to the flower-filled planters on street corners and comfy recycled benches outside of shops, Beautification promotes a clean and attractive Market Street experience for locals and guests alike.

Our Team
The Music at the Park Team is dedicated to bringing live music to Mount Carmel through a yearly concert series in Merchants Park. All the shows are free and have a family friendly atmosphere. Concert goers are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to watch the shows in the park with friends and neighbors while enjoying refreshments from local food trucks that provide concessions for these events.
